New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Kevin Pillar had a pair of hits and drove home a pair of runs for the Fisher Cats (15-18) on Tuesday night, but the New Britain Rock Cats (17-15) rallied for an 8-5 victory at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The loss for the Fisher Cats means the Rock Cats have won the series heading into the finale on Wednesday morning.
New Britain opened the scoring netting a run in the first and two more in the second before Pillar struck. With two outs in the second inning, he blooped a single to left field for two runs to make it a one-run game.
The Fisher Cats took the lead an inning later against eventual winning pitcher B.J. Hermsen (W; 1-2). Brad Glenn doubled home Clint Robinson, and then scored on a two-out single from Adam Loewen to push New Hampshire in front, 4-3.
That was the Fisher Cats lone lead of the game as losing pitcher Chorye Spoone (L; 1-2) allowed four runs in the fifth inning. Spoone had come on in relief of Sean Nolin, who returned from the DL to make his season debut. Nolin did not factor into the decision, allowing two earned runs over 3.1 innings.
Glenn finished the game with three hits, including a pair of doubles, for New Hampshire while Robinson and Kevin Nolan had two hits each.
The Fisher Cats will now try and salvage the finale of the series on Wednesday morning during an EnergyNorth Propane Educational Day. First pitch is at 10:35 a.m. Tickets are available by visiting the stadium box office, calling (603) 641-2005, or by purchasing and printing your tickets online at www.nhfishercats.com.
Wednesday's pitching match-up features RHP Marcus Walden (1-3, 2.97) for New Hampshire against New Britain LHP Pat Dean (0-3, 4.22). Radio coverage begins at 9:45 a.m. with Tom Gauthier and Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
