Lancaster Stormers News Release

The bottom of the seventh inning provided hope to the Lancaster Barnstormers and their fans early Tuesday as the club rallied for three runs to take a huge chunk out of a Long Island Ducks lead.

That hope soon vanished.

Long Island scored four runs in the top of the ninth to secure their second with of the current four-game series and send the host Barnstormers to an 8-3 less, the club's eighth straight, in front of 5,115 at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The Ducks signaled their intent early. Danny Perales slammed the second pitch of the day by Jay Buente (1-2) well over the picnic tents in right. Josh Barfield blooped a single into right center, stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Adam Bailey for a 2-0 edge.

Buente would shut down Long Island for the next three innings, but the Ducks stretched their lead against Brian Grening in the fifth. Perales got the inning off to a false start when he was gunned down on a steal attempt after a leadoff single. Barfield singled to right and dashed to third on Ben Broussard's double down the left field line. Ryan Strieby rolled a single through the drawn-in infield to score Barfield. Strieby took off for second on a steal attempt, and Broussard was able to cross the plate when coverage was late to receive the throw from Gustavo Molina. Adam Bailey walked, and Joash Brodin reached on an infield single before Grening fanned the next two hitters to get out of the inning.

Former Florida Marlins All-Star lefty Dontrelle Willis (1-2) shut down the Barnstormers on three soft hits through the first 6 2/3 innings, but Lancaster was able to put on a two-out charge in the seventh. Molina walked and was given second on a wild pitch. Daryle Ward chased Willis from the game with a solid RBI single up the middle. Josh Lansford took over and was greeted by Olmo Rosario's smash to right. Another wild pitch advanced the Lancaster runners to second and third. Both were picked up when Charlie Neil ripped a base hit to center, cutting the Ducks lead to 4-3.

Jerry Owens followed with a single down the left field line, putting the tying run in scoring position. The Barnstormers were unable to finish off the rally and never had another baserunner on the day.

Derrick Loop walked the first two hitters of the ninth before striking out Broussard. Robert Hinton took over and allowed an infield single by Gabe Suarez to load the bases. Bailey cleaned the off with a double down the first base line and, in turn, scored on a single to right by Brodin to put the game away.

The two clubs are slated to meet again Wednesday evening at 7:00. Lefty Lenny DiNardo (1-2) gets the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Nick DeBarr (0-2). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app for the pre-game show beginning at 6:45.

NOTES: Ryan Harvey's hitting streak was snapped at seven games...Lancaster was held without an extra-base hit for the third time this season...Jason Richardson made his Barnstormers debut and threw a perfect eighth inning...Nate Reed caught two runners off first base in his two-inning stint.
