Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
DUNEDIN, FL - The Florida State League announced on Monday that Dunedin Blue Jays starting pitcher Casey Lawrence was named the league's pitcher of the week for the period of April 22-28.
In his only start last week on April 23, Lawrence tossed 8.0 innings of shutout baseball, limiting the visiting Daytona Cubs to just four hits while striking out a career high nine batters. The McSherrytown, PA native currently owns a 17.2 inning scoreless inning streak, dating back to April 18 when he threw a 9.2 inning shutout at Lakeland. He became the first FSL starting pitcher since before 2005 to pitch more than nine innings in a single game.
The 25-year-old right-hander enters play today leading all qualifying FSL starting pitchers in ERA (0.75), opponents average (.148), WHIP (0.63), fewest baserunners per nine innings pitched (5.62) and ranks fourth in fewest walks per nine innings pitched (1.13).
Lawrence will take the mound for the D-Jays tonight in Jupiter against the Hammerheads. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM ET.
