Behind stellar pitching and 14 hits, the Mud Hens defeated the Louisville Bats, 8-0, on Saturday night for their second straight win at Fifth Third Field!
The Hens struck first after Gustavo Nunez led off the first inning with a walk and later scored on an RBI single from Nick Castellanos. Nunez crossed the plate again in the third inning after Quintin Berry knocked in a run for the second game in a row to give the Hens a 2-0 advantage.
After scoring two more runs in the sixth, the biggest offensive explosion came across in the eighth after Jordan Lennerton led off the inning with a triple and later scored on a pinch-hit RBI single from Ben Guez. Then, with the bases loaded, Nunez smashed his third hit - a single to center - to bring home two more runs. Berry finished off the scoring with an RBI single to make it 8-0.
Starting pitcher Jose Alvarez was stellar for the Hens in six innings of work, allowing no runs and only two hits while striking out seven.
The Mud Hens will look to secure their first series win of the year tomorrow against Louisville at 2:00 p.m. Shawn Hill (0-0, 3.86) is scheduled to make his third start of the year for Toledo.
