Former Blue Jays Farmhand Signs with Beach Bums

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums continue to build their pitching staff for 2013 with the signing of right-handed pitcher Phil Brua.

Brua spent the last two seasons in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, splitting time last season with the Vancouver Canadians (Northwest - A-) and the Lansing Lugnuts (Midwest - A). Combined between the two teams, he went 5-1 in 29 games with a 4.72 ERA.

An Avon, OH native, Brua initially signed with Toronto in 2011 and went 7-1 with five saves for the Canadians that season, compiling a 2.70 ERA. He led the Northwest League in wins, was seventh with 26 appearances and finished ninth in saves. A control specialist, Brua has walked 19 batters in 87.2 professional innings, a mark of 1.95 BB/9IP.

The right-hander pitched collegiately for Oberlin College (NCAC - NCAA D-III). His best season for the Yeomen came as a junior in 2010 when he went 6-3 with six saves and a 2.78 ERA. His save total topped the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The Traverse City Beach Bums are members of the 14 team Frontier League with teams in seven Midwest states. The Beach Bums 2013 home opener is Tuesday, May 21st versus the Evansville Otters.
