Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, have re-signed outfielder Steven Felix. He led the team in hits, home runs, RBI, games played, runs scored (41) and stolen bases (16) in 2012. The CornBelters will play their first home game of the 2013 season at The Corn Crib on Tuesday, May 21 at 7 p.m. versus the Windy City ThunderBolts ("CEFCU Opening Night").
"Steven's obviously one of the key players for us in 2013," said CornBelters Field Manager, Brooks Carey. "He's a middle of the line-up, impact type player. I'm expecting him to improve on all of his numbers from last year. He's committed to helping make this team a winner."
Felix hit .268 with 94 hits, 13 doubles, 11 home runs and 48 RBI in 94 games last season. Before joining the team last season, he played for two teams within the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Splitting time between the Arizona League Brewers (Arizona League - Rookie) and Helena Brewers (Pioneer League - Rookie) in 2011, he hit .314 with 48 hits, 10 doubles, nine home runs and 41 RBI in 45 games. Prior to starting his professional career, he played collegiately at Troy University (Troy, AL).
"Steven's the type of player who could hit 20 or more home runs for us this season and be a an All-Star in this league," said CornBelters President/Owner, Steve Malliet.
