Brampton Steelheads News Release
Mississauga, ON - The Steelheads failed to score on Charlie Graham as the East Division leading Bulls defeated Mississauga 1-0. A team starved for goal scoring, tallying a league low 150 goals, fired 37 shots at Graham and beat him twice. Unfortunately, the first goal was disallowed due to an apparent Bobby MacIntyre high stick, while Josh Burnside rang the crossbar minutes later.
A fast-paced and tight checking opening frame offered limited scoring chances to both teams. Kristoff Kontos found himself on a partial breakaway late in the period but was hauled down prior to challenging the Bulls goalie. The Steelheads outshot Belleville 10-7 in the frame.
On Saturday night in Sudbury, Alex Cord drove wide on a Wolves defender and scored for the Steelheads; tonight was eerily similar. Cord once again skated around an opponent and powered to the net, but it was MacIntyre that would capitalize. Unfortunately after a lengthy review, the Steelheads rookie's goal was disallowed. Special teams situations became more frequent in the second period, and Belleville's league worst power play eventually capitalized. Daniil Zharkov escaped at the side of Spencer Martin's goal and beat the Steelheads starting goalie on the low blocker side at 12:56 of the frame.
A third period dominated by special teams saw Mississauga generate pressure and Belleville lure for counter attacking opportunities. The Steelheads best chance to equalize eluded Kontos and Dylan Smoskowitz in the final minute, with Mississauga on their fifth man-advantage of the game.
The Steelheads visit Mark Scheifele and his Barrie Colts tomorrow night before returning to host Dylan DiPerna and the Kingston Frontenacs on Monday at 2:00 p.m. Great seats are still available by calling (905) 502 - 7788, visiting the Hershey Centre Box Office, or logging on to Ticketmaster.
