PETERBOROUGH, ON- They were two teams battling difference scenarios.

As "Hockey Day in Canada" took to various venues in Peterborough, Ontario, the Hounds and Petes would meet on Saturday Night for the first time this OHL regular season.

The Hounds entered amidst a battle for the lead in the West Division, while Peterborough has climbed the standings and were looking to inch closer to a playoff position in the East.

JUSTIN NICHOLS got the call for the second consecutive game on the trip, and was the busier of the two goalies to start things off. The Petes jumped out to a quick 9-2 shot lead seven minutes in and the early momentum.

On the Hounds sixth shot of the game ANDREW FRITSCH sent a pass out front to SERGEY TOLCHINSKY but Andrew D'Agostini got the pad on one of his thirteen first period saves.

Then in the final minute a RYAN SPROUL point shot could be heard going off the stick of the Pete's goalie before he fell backwards and directed the puck away from the goal to keep the team's scoreless in the first.

Former Hound Brett Findlay opened the scoring in the game on Peterborough's 16th shot of the game. Following up the play by the Petes, Findlay stepped into the middle of the circle to NICHOL's left before firing his 14th goal of the year gloveside and a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after a weird bounce came off the Memorial Centre's end boards and Greg Betzold found the iron but the score stood.

NICK COUSINS tied the contest at 7:38 stepping in before firing his 20th of the year blocker side on D'Agostini to tie things up.

Less than two minutes later DAVID BROLL spun a pass to the point where RYAN SPROUL fired a high shot through and the Hounds took the lead on the powerplay, all-be-it a brief one. After the Hounds two goals both COUSINS and SPROUL had notched a pair of points in the first half of the game.

The lead lasted just over a minute before Cody Thompson redirected a Brandon Devlin point shot gloveside and the Hounds and Petes were deadlocked once again, now 2-2.

With just over five minutes to play in the second a dump-in came awkwardly off the end boards once again before Nick Czinder buried the go-ahead goal and Peterborough held a 3-2 lead through two periods of play.

Through the opening forty minutes the Hounds stayed out of the box before seeing the Petes on a powerplay less than five minutes into the third.

After killing off the early shorthanded situation SERGEY TOLCHINSKY stepped in off the right wing to the top of the dots but D'Agostini foiled the Hounds sniper with a big glove stop.

The two teams would have one more powerplay each and while the Hounds were on their third advantage of the game, a great backhand chance by NICK COUSINS in-close was stopped to preserve the Petes lead.

TOLCHINSKY kept the Hounds chances coming, and while the team pulled NICHOLS from the net in the final minute, the locals couldn't get any closer.

Despite firing 42 shots at Pete's netminder Andrew D'Agostini, the Hounds would eventually fall for the first time in 8 regulation contests, by a score of 3-2.

The loss dropped the Hounds to 29-20-2-2, while moving them back into 2nd in the West Division by virtue of Plymouth's home ice win over the Owen Sound Attack.

The three-game trip will come to a close on Sunday evening (6:05 p.m.) with the second and final regular season game at the Oshawa Generals.

Pre-game action begins on Rock 101 starting at 5:35 p.m
