Toledo's Simpson Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Kent Simpson of the Toledo Walleye is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 28-Feb. 3.

The 20-year-old went 3-0-0 with one shutout, a 0.67 goals-against average and a .975 save percentage in three appearances last week.

Simpson posted his first professional shutout on Thursday, stopping all 20 shots in the Walleye's 2-0 win at Cincinnati. He followed that up with 29 saves in a 4-1 victory against Elmira on Friday and ended the week with 30 saves in a 2-1 win against Reading on Saturday.

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Simpson has appeared in 25 games with Toledo this season posting an overall record of 12-9-3 with one shutout, a 2.51 goals-against average and a save percentage of .901. He has won each of his last four starts, allowing one goal or less in each of those outings, and is 5-1-0 in his last six appearances. He also has appeared in one game with Rockford of the American Hockey League.

Selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round (58th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Simpson spent the previous four seasons with Everett of Western Hockey League where he saw action in 175 career games with a record of 71-71-21 with six shutouts, a 3.02 goals-against average and a save percentage of .911.
