Connecticut Whale News Release

The Whale (20-21-4-1, 45 pts.) came out of the All-Star break with an overtime loss and a regulation loss in two home games last week. Connecticut had a three-game overall winning streak, and a five-game home winning run, ended Friday, as they suffered a 5-4 overtime defeat to Bridgeport. Then on Saturday, in front of a crowd of 13,239, the second-largest XL Center attendance in franchise history, a Whale comeback fell just short in a 3-2 loss against Springfield. J.T. Miller had one of the Whale's two third-period goals in Saturday's game, and registered a pair of assists on Friday.

This week:

The Whale finish a six-game homestand by hosting the Albany Devils on Tuesday night (7:00 PM faceoff at the XL Center), before heading off to St. John's, Newfoundland for their only trip north of the border on the season. The Whale and IceCaps will drop the puck at 6:00 Eastern Time on Saturday at Mile One Centre in St. John's, and then will rematch at 2:30 Eastern on Sunday.

Tuesday, February 5 vs. the Albany Devils at the XL Center, 7:00 p.m.

* The Devils (17-16-1-8, 43 pts.) begin the week two points behind the Whale in the Eastern Conference standings, with four games-in-hand on Connecticut. Albany has lost its last two and is 2-3-0-2 in its last seven.

* This is the Devils' last of three visits on the year to the XL Center, and they have won the first two, 1-0 on December 9 and 4-3 on December 14, after the Whale took the first two games of the season series in Albany.

* With Bobby Butler (16-11-27 in 37 GP) on recall to the parent New Jersey Devils, Joe Whitney (11-13-24 in 32 GP) is the leading scorer currently on Albany's roster.

* For this and all Whale home games, tickets start as low as $10 each ($12 each when tickets are purchased on the day of the game), at the Public Power Ticket Office at the XL Center, through TicketMaster Charge-by-Phone at 1-800-745-3000 and on-line at www.ticketmaster.com.

Saturday, February 9 at the St. John's IceCaps (Mile One Centre), 6:00 p.m.

* The Whale have yet to defeat St. John's in the IceCaps' two seasons of existence, having gone 0-3-1-0 in a four-game season series last year.

* The Whale and the 21-22-1-2 IceCaps are tied in the Eastern Conference standings at 45 points apiece, two points out of a playoff spot. St. John's has won two in a row and has at least a standings point in seven of its last nine games (6-2-0-1).

* IceCap goaltender Eddie Pasquale (14-15-2, 2.48, 91.8%, 4 SHO) is 6-1-1 with two shutouts in his last eight decisions.
