Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. -- Fresh off Saturday's 5-2 win over the visiting Regina Pats at Westman Communications Group Place, the Brandon Wheat Kings will take some time off on Sunday in preparation for what will be a very busy week - both on and off the ice.

In addition to continuing their season high 7-game Western Hockey League home stand with games against Lethbridge, Edmonton and Regina on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights, members of the club will be travelling out to Killarney on Monday for their fifth and final Canadian Tire Minor Hockey Caravan, presented by Teleco Supply and the Construction Association of Rural Manitoba.

As well, the Wheat Kings and 880 CKLQ will host the annual Sportsman's Dinner on Thursday night at the Keystone Centre's UCT Pavillion.

The Dinner, which is held annually to raise money for the hockey club's Scholarship Foundation will feature Hockey Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne and comedian Tim Nutt. Winnipeg's Big Daddy Tazz will serve as master of ceremonies for the event, which will again be a "sell-out".

Monday's Minor Hockey Caravan visit to Killarney will feature newly acquired blueliner Nick Walters, rookie defenceman Colton Waltz and 18-year old goalkeeper Curtis Honey. While Honey has taken over the number one job between the pipes for the Wheat Kings as veteran Corbin Boes recovers from a recent knee injury, Waltz was Brandon's first pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft and Walters was obtained last month from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for Ayrton Nikkel. Brandon also received the playing rights to Yellowhead Chiefs' forward Taylor Sanheim in the deal.

Walters was chosen by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round of last year's National Hockey League Entry Draft.

In addition to skating with members of several local minor hockey teams in Killarney, the Wheat Kings will be signing autographs, posing for photographs and distributing tickets to an upcoming home game, courtesy of Canadian Tire, Teleco and CARM.

Tickets for all remaining Wheat King home games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com. Wednesday's game vs. Lethbridge is a 7pm start while Friday and Saturday's games will get underway at 7:30 pm.

Three lucky fans attending Friday's game will be entered to win one of three new Blackberry 9900s from MTS Connect, while Saturday's game - presented by Oak Island Golf Resort - is another Brandon Source for Sports - Subway Family Night. See store for details on the Wheat Kings' $48 Family Package that includes two adult and two youth tickets.
