D-Fenders Drop Bighorns in Triple Overtime

EL SEGUNDO, CA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders emerged victorious in the first triple-overtime game in team history, dropping the Reno Bighorns 134-124 at Toyota Sports Center on Saturday night.

Trailing by 18 points at halftime and as many as 22 points in the third quarter, Los Angeles (4-4) went on a 31-14 run and entered the fourth quarter down just 85-80. Reno maintained the lead, however, and went back up by nine points before the D-Fenders managed to tilt the game in their favor. Gary Flowers scored six of the final eight D-Fenders points, including a two-handed dunk with 3.3 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

Down 110-107 after Antoine Wright converted two free throws for the Bighorns (2-5), Jamario Moon drilled a three-pointer with 6.1 seconds left to tie the score and extend the contest to a second overtime. Locked at 110, the second overtime featured four ties and ended in a draw, pushing it to the first triple overtime game in D-Fenders history. The D-Fenders finally took control of the action, going on a 9-2 run to begin the third session and ultimately secure the victory.

Seven D-Fenders scored in double-figures and two finished with double-doubles, led by Courtney Fortson (36 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists), Darius Johnson-Odom (30 points [10-20 FG], 4 rebounds, 4 assists) and Flowers (16 points [7-9 FG], 10 rebounds). Orien Greene added 15 points, six rebounds, and six assists, Elijah Millsap dropped in 14 points (11-14 FT), Jarrid Famous posted 13 points, and Moon tallied 10 points to go with 12 rebounds, rounding out the D-Fenders scoring efforts.

The Bighorns ended with three 20-point scorers, guided by Garrett Temple (23 points, 7 assists), Darnell Jackson (20 points [9-16 FG], 11 rebounds) and Tony Wroten (20 points). Additionally, Tyler Honeycutt contributed 18 points (7-15 FG) as well as 12 rebounds, Marcus Landry pitched in 14 points, and Wright scored 13 points for Reno.

With the win, the D-Fenders have now won eight straight versus the Bighorns (beginning 1/6/12 at Reno), including five straight at home dating back to January 7th, 2012. In 16 overtime games in franchise history, the D-Fenders now hold a record of 10-6 in contests needing an extra session. Los Angeles plays its final home game of 2012 versus Idaho on December 22nd, wrapping up its string of five straight at Toyota Sports Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 pm in El Segundo.
