Tuesday is Rain Check Night

Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings will be hoping to make it two for two Tuesday night when they continue their 4-game Western Hockey League home stand at Westman Communications Group Place against the 2013 Memorial Cup Host Saskatoon Blades.

The Wheat Kings, who snapped a 7-game winless streak with a dramatic 5-4 overtime victory over the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday night, are encouraging fans to bring a new unwrapped toy or non perishable food item to the game. All collections will be donated to the Westman and Area Traditional Christmas Dinner.

In an effort to reward those that do, Tuesday's game night sponsor Juggernaut Computers will be giving away an Acer Aspire Notebook with a 15.6" LCD screen, built in webcam and Windows 7 Home Premium. It also comes with 6GB of memory, 500GB hard drive and an Intel Core Processor.

The Westman Traditional Christmas Dinner began in 1985 by former Wheat Kings' head coach Rocky Addison. The first dinner was attended by thirty people and was held in a small church on the corner of 8th street and Victoria Avenue in Brandon. Soon, it outgrew the capacity of the church and was moved to the Prairie Oasis Senior Centre. The number of people attending the dinner increased to a point where the dinner had to be moved once again to a larger facility - the Keystone Centre.

In 2011, 2200 meals were delivered to shut-ins throughout the city and 2300 meals were served to those who attended the event. This year's Dinner is scheduled for Christmas Day, from 12 noon to 6pm in the Keystone Centre's Convention Hall.

Tuesday's game between the Wheat Kings and Saskatoon is also the first of two "Rain Check" games this season. Fans with unused 2012-13 tickets can exchange them at the Keystone Centre box office for a free ticket to this game (regular box office agency fees apply). All other tickets can be purchased by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com

The Wheat Kings will then host their final pre-Christmas home game on Friday night when they play host to the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors. Friday is Calendar Poster Giveaway Night, presented by McDonalds and The Brandon Sun.
