KEARNEY, Neb. - Storm defenseman Josh McArdle has officially accepted an offer to attend school and play hockey at Yale University next season.
"Yale is always where I've wanted to go, and it's a big opportunity for me," McArdle said. "I can't wait to be a Bulldog in the future and finally getting this offer than I've been waiting for is pretty exciting."
The 18-year-old said the coaches he'll be working with at Yale and the atmosphere during some of the games were some of the most important factors in his decision.
"The coaches are amazing," McArdle said. "I know they can get the best out of me when I'm there. I don't think I could be in a better place with being comfortable and being the best player I can be. The fans are crazy and the building's pretty unique, so it's going to be a fun place to play especially when they pack the house and the energy will be flowing.
"Visiting there was a big thing for me, and the school itself is amazing. The group of guys that I met were great. I only knew them for two days, and they treated me like I was one of their own."
When he enrolls next fall, McArdle will be with one of his current teammates, forward Tim Bonner.
"Bones [Bonner] and I are pretty good friends," McArdle said. "Since last year when I first talked to Yale and he was already committed, we've always joked about being teammates for four more years. He was actually one of the first guys I called; he was so excited. Maybe we'll have an apartment together and have a nice future. It'll be a good time."
The Roscoe, Ill., native is looking forward to the experience of moving to the east coast, having grown up in the Midwest.
"It's going to be different," McArdle said. "I'm going to be a little farther from home than I am right now, but my parents love to travel and will love to come out to the east coast. I fell in love with the east coast last year when I played with Team Illinois and we went out to Boston and Philadelphia quite a few times. I think I'm really going to like it."
Tri-City will look to continue the success they enjoyed last weekend on the road when they return home for three games this week in Kearney at the Viaero Event Center. The Storm host the Sioux City Musketeers on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. before welcoming Omaha to town on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Des Moines on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.
