Texas Stars Take Down Houston Aeros 7-2

CEDAR PARK, TX - Francis Wathier posted a four-point night and the Texas Stars scored four power play goals on their way to an emphatic 7-2 preseason win over the Houston Aeros Wednesday night at Cedar Park Center.

Colton Sceviour opened the scoring with a power play goal from the left faceoff circle at 6:35, assisted by Jordie Benn and Travis Morin. Houston answered back at 10:57 when Carson McMillan beat Stars starting goaltender Jack Campbell with a wrist shot to tie the game at 1-1. Texas went back in front 2-1 at 12:17 as Toby Petersen set up Francis Wathier for a five-on-three power play goal, a lead the Stars carried into the first intermission.

Mike Hedden scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal at 1:20 of the second period as he notched the team's second five-one-three power play goal of the night, assisted by Wathier and Travis Morin. Nick Petersen pulled one back for the Aeros at 12:19 to narrow the Stars' lead to 3-2.

Texas blew the doors off in the third period, scoring four more times before the final whistle. Tomas Vincour found the net from in close at 6:06 assisted by Reilly Smith and Maxime Fortunus. Wathier then fired home his second goal of the game at 8:05 for a 5-2 lead. Cody Eakin made it 6-2 at 9:19, set up by Fortunus, as Texas settled into a comfortable four-goal lead. Brenden Dillon capped off the scoring in the final minute of play as his slap shot from the point found the net at 19:07, assisted by Wathier and Alex Chiasson, for the team's fourth power play goals and a 7-2 final score.

Stars goaltender Jack Campbell made 22 saves on 24 shots to earn the win, while Houston starter Darcy Kuemper took the loss while stopping 18-of-25 shots. Texas finished 4-for-6 power play and out-shot the Aeros 25-24; Houston was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

The Stars continue their preseason schedule on Friday, October 5th as they host the San Antonio Rampage for a 7:00 pm face off at Cedar Park Center. Texas will travel to San Antonio on Saturday, October 6th for a 4:00 pm game at the Ice & Golf Center at Northwoods.

The Stars open the 2012-13 AHL season on Saturday, October 13th at San Antonio and their home opener comes on Sunday, October 14th as they host the Charlotte Checkers for a 7:00 pm faceoff at Cedar Park Center. 2012-13 season seat packages are on sale now.
