Providence Bruins News Release
Marlborough, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons 4-1 in their first preseason game this evening at the New England Sports Center. Scoring for Providence was Jamie Tardif, Carter Camper, Matthew Pistilli and Justin Florek.
The Providence Bruins came out of the locker room flying and pummeled Curtis McElhinney with shots right off the opening puck drop. It didn't take long for the P-Bruins to find the net. Second-year P-Bruin forward Tardif got on the board at 4:15 of the opening frame off a helper from Ryan Lowery and Kelsey Wilson, both of which are at training camp on PTOs. Although the P-Bruins didn't light the lamp again in the first period, the Black and Gold dominated every aspect of play, beating Springfield to the puck and intercepting their breakout attempts.
The second period was the time for the young guns to shine. Second-year pro and Providence's leading scorer last year, Camper opened the scoring on the power play at 6:42 of the second period to give the P-Bruins a 2-0 lead. He was assisted by David Warsofsky. Just six minutes later, Pistilli added his first goal of the preseason and first in a P-Bruins sweater. Wilson added his second helper of the night on the third goal of the contest. Shortly after the goal, P-Bruins' tough guy, Tyler Randell, dropped the gloves and delivered some devastating blows to Nathan Moon.
The P-Bruins opened the final frame with Niklas Svedberg between the pipes and a quick power play tally from rookie Florek, his first of the preseason. Craig Cunningham added the assist to give Providence a 4-0 lead. Springfield gained momentum in the second half of the third frame and after many failed attempts, finally put away their first goal of the season at 17:11. Despite the late goal, Providence held on for the 4-1 win.
The Providence Bruins' Opening Night is on Friday, October 12 at 7:05 p.m. versus the Manchester Monarchs for Dunkin' Donuts Thundersticks Night. The P-Bruins' complete season schedule can be found on www.providencebruins.com.
