
Road Woes Continue For Vermont In 6-0 Loss At Lowell

LOWELL, MA --- The Lake Monsters road drought continued on Wednesday night as Vermont was held to just three hits in a 6-0 loss to the Lowell Spinners in New York-Penn League action at LeLecheur Park. It marked the 10th time this season that the Lake Monsters have been shutout and was also a franchise-tying 13th straight loss on the road for Vermont.
The Lake Monsters had just one hit over the first eight innings on a two-out double in the fifth inning for Miguel Marte, who was tagged out after rounding second base too far. ÃÂ Vermont's other two hits came in the ninth as Reynaldo Mateo singled over the bag at third and moved to second on a throwing error. Brett Vertigan followed with a single to shallow center, but Mateo was unable to advanced to third. Chris Bostick then struckout and John Wooten popped out to end the game.
Lowell starter Justin Healey walked two and struckout four over three hitless innings, while reliever Francisco Taveras (6-2) gave up one hit with four strikeouts over five scoreless innings for his sixth save of the season. Oscar Perez went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI, while Matt Gedman was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI for Lowell (34-35).
The Spinners scored two runs off Vermont starter Brent Powers (0-7) in the fourth inning, then added two runs off reliever Omar Duran in the seventh and two more runs in the eighth off Ryan Dull. The three Lake Monster pitchers did combine for 10 strikeouts, including five for Duran in 1 2/3 innings, to increase their league-leading total to 598 (just 34 short of Vermont record 632 in 2008).
The 13-game road losing streak ties the Vermont record set June 17-July 14, 2003. The Lake Monsters have not won a road game since Julsy 30th at Aberdeen.ÃÂ Vermont (28-41) plays its final road game of the season at Lowell on Thursday at 7:05 pm beforeÃÂ returning to Centennial Field for a six-game homestand Friday-Wednesday.
