
'Riders Outlast Hooks

FRISCO, TEXAS- Frisco comes out on top 2-1 over Corpus Christi Tuesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The RoughRiders were able to hold onto a one-run lead going into the ninth to win game one.
Corpus Christi put the first run on the board in the second inning. Austin Wates stepped into the box to face 'Riders starter Nick Tepesch who then hit him with the pitch. Jair Fernandez then hit a grounder to shortstop Leury Garcia who threw the ball away to put Hooks' runners on first and second. George Springer flied out before a deep fly ball by Bobby Borchering brought in Wates to score. With two outs and a runner in scoring position, Enrique Hernandez singled to center fielder Engel Beltre. Beltre made a strong throw home to put out Fernandez who was trying to score to leave the score 1-0 Corpus Christi.
Two innings later, Frisco tied the game. Hooks' starter Bobby Doran opened the half by walking Jared Hoying. Chris McGuiness then flied out before Jared Prince hit an infield single. One batter later, Ryan Strausborger stepped into the box. With two Jareds on the base paths, Strausborger hit an infield single to third and Hoying came around to score evening the game at one run apiece. Alex Buchholz flied out to end the inning.
The next run of the night crossed the plate in the eighth inning. With one out on the board, Jared Prince hit an infield single before Tommy Mendonca doubled bringing him around to score. Strausborger grounded out before Jurickson Profar was intentionally walked. A ground out by Jose Felix ended Frisco's eighth.
Nursing a one-run lead, Frisco worked to hold off Corpus Christi who threatened in the ninth. 'Riders reliever Roman Mendez induced a fly out before walking Jonathan Singleton. Drew Locke then doubled down the left field line. Austin Wates was then intentionally walked to load the bases. Reliever Ryan Rodebaugh was then brought in to face pinch hitting Jacob Goebbert. Rodebaugh struck out Goebbert and George Springer to end the game and seal another RoughRiders' win.
Frisco reliever Roman Mendez picks up his first Double-A win pitching for 2.1 innings allowing one hit and no runs while walking two and striking out none. 'Riders reliever Ryan Rodebaugh picks up his fifth save of the season pitching for 0.2 innings while allowing no hits and no runs while walking none and striking out two. Hooks' reliver Jake Buchanan is tagged with his eighth loss of the season pitching for three innings allowing two hits and one run while walking two and striking out two.
Frisco plays game two against Corpus Christi on Wednesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Neil Ramirez (2-4, 3.57) gets the start for the RoughRiders. He will be opposed by left-handed hurler Rob Rasmussen (4-3, 4.50). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 1630 KKGM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:30 p.m.
