
Bryce Brentz Named Eastern League Player of the Week

Portland, Maine- The Eastern League has selected Portland Sea Dogs' outfielder Bryce Brentz as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of August 20th through August 26th.
The 23-year old, Brentz, appeared in six games for the Sea Dogs during the week hitting a league best .536 (15-for-28) with two home runs and a league high ten RBI. The week was highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance with two home runs in a 7-2 win at New Britain on August 22nd; it was his second career multi-home run game. Brentz has recorded six straight multi hit games. During the week he led the league in average (.536), RBI (10), and hits (15) and ranked among the league leaders in on base percentage (.552- 3rd), slugging percentage (.893- 4th), and doubles (4- tied 4th).
The impressive week for Brentz has raised his season average to .300 (133-for-443), which ranks ninth in the Eastern League. Brentz has appeared in a team high 119 games for the Sea Dogs this season and leads the team in average (.300), hits (133), doubles (30), and RBI (73). His 17 home runs ranks second behind Jeremy Hazelbaker's 19. Brentz also ranks fourth in the Eastern League in total bases (216) and fifth in extra base hits (48).
The 2011 Red Sox Co-Offensive Minor League Player of the Year is ranked by Baseball America as the #5 prospect in the Red Sox organization. Brentz was the Red Sox second pick (sandwich pick between the first and second rounds, 36th overall) in the 2010 First-Year Player.
This marks the second time this season that Brentz has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week, he previously captured the honor for the week of May 28th through June 3rd. Brentz was also named the Eastern League Player of the Month for May and selected to participate in the Eastern League All-Star Game.
The Portland Sea Dogs are in Manchester, New Hampshire taking on the Fisher Cats in their final road trip of the season.
