Trenton Thunder News Release
(Akron, OH) - Catcher Michel Hernandez' two-out RBI double in the sixth inning snapped a 3-3 tie and proved to be a game-winner as the Akron Aeros held on for a 4-3 win over the Trenton Thunder Saturday night at Canal Park. David Adams' two-run home run in the fourth inning was the team's 151st of the year and established a new Trenton franchise single-season record.
Even with the loss, the Thunder's (75-58) magic number for clinching a playoff berth was trimmed to three when New Britain fell at New Hampshire. Trenton's magic number for clinching the Eastern Division remained at six as Reading moved to within 4.0 games with a victory against Erie.
With the score tied in the sixth, Shaeffer Hall (9-9) walked back-to-back batters with one out. After Davis Stoneburner flew out, light-hitting catcher Hernandez lined a run-scoring double to left plating Jesus Aguilar with the go-ahead run. Hernandez was batting only .180 on the season entering the game.
T.J. House (8-4) tossed 6.2 innings for Akron to defeat Trenton for the second time this season, allowing three runs and six hits. Shawn Armstrong pitched 1.1 scoreless frames setting up Preston Guilmet for the ninth inning. Guilmet set the Thunder down in order to finish his league-high 22nd save.
Adams' long ball in the fourth put Trenton ahead 2-1, but Ryan Rohlinger's two-run single in the bottom of the inning gave the home team a 3-2 edge. Addison Maruszak's two-out RBI hit in the sixth tied the game at 3.
Trenton tries to win three out of four over the weekend as the teams conclude the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 pm, with right-hander Brett Marshall (13-6, 3.24) expected to start while Akron counters with righty Toru Murata (2-1, 3.13). Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online begins at 12:50 pm.
