Baysox Rally Late, But Can'T Hold On

August 20, 2012 - Eastern League (EL) Bowie Baysox

Richmond, VA - After trailing all night the Bowie Baysox (68-60) rallied in the ninth, but couldn't hold on as they lost to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (65-63) 4-3 on Monday night.

After an hour and 16 minutes rain delay in the eighth inning with the Baysox trailing 2-0, they rallied in the ninth. Jonathan Schoop led off with a walk and Ty Kelly singled to put two runners on with no one out. Robbie Widlansky then gave the Baysox the led with a three-run home run to make the score 3-2.

The Squirrels bounced right back in the ninth inning to get the walk-off win. Johnny Monell and Mark Minicozzi drew back-to-back walks to start the ninth and then Ehire Adriana tied up the game with a single to right field. Then with the bases loaded and one out, Gary Brown singled back through the middle to give the Flying Squirrels the 4-3 win.

The Flying Squirrels struck first in the fourth inning. Monell led off with a double and went to third on a fly out. Adrianza then knocked him in on a squeeze play that gave the Squirrels a 1-0 lead.

Juan Perez added to the lead when he led off the sixth inning with a home run to make the score 2-0.

Dylan Bundy made his second start and despite a quality start he got a no decision. The right hander went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Jake Dunning pitched 0.2 innings and ended up picking up the win.

The loss went to Kyler Newby who blew his first save of the season giving up two runs on three hits with two walks in the ninth inning.

Tomorrow in game two, LHP Rick Zagone (4-3, 4.33) will go up against LHP Chris Gloor (2-4, 2.38).

The Baysox will return home on August 23 for an eight-game homestand that will be their final homestand of the 2012 regular season.
