TRENTON, N.J. - Altoona finally had some breaks go its way and rid itself of a 13-game road losing streak with a, 6-2, win over the first-place Trenton Thunder on Monday night at Waterfront Park. The Curve flipped the scoreboard in the eighth, sending 10 men to the plate and scoring five runs to take the lead. It's the first road win in the month of August for the Curve and their first since July 24th, which was also by the same score of 6-2.

Trailing 2-1 heading to the eighth, Altoona started its game-winning rally with two down when Ramon Cabrera singled off Graham Stoneburner. Rather than have Stoneburner face lefty Andrew Lambo, Thunder manager Tony Franklin elected to play the matchups and brought in lefty reliever Josh Romanski (1-2) to face the left-handed hitting Lambo. It did not pay off because Lambo singled through the right side to move Cabrera to third.

Romanski still had another lefty to get past in Matt Curry but the watchful eye of Curry drew a walk to load up the bases. That marked the final batter for Romanski and Franklin came out once again and went to righty Ryan Pope to face Oscar Tejeda. Tejeda worked the count and eventually legged out an infield single to short that tied the game at two.

Quincy Latimore followed Tejeda's hustle infield single with a single through the left side that score two and gave Altoona its first lead at 4-2. The Curve weren't done scoring just yet because Jarek Cunningham followed with a broken-bat single with both the ball and the bat going towards short. Thunder shortstop Addison Maruszak had to pick the ball up from behind the broken bat and threw errantly to first, allowing Latimore to second from second on the play. With two more runs in, Altoona led, 6-2.

That was enough for the bullpen the rest of the way with Erik Turgeon (2-3), who was promoted to Altoona on Monday, pitching a scoreless eighth before Vic Black closed it out in the ninth. The win when trailing after seven innings is just the fifth for the Curve this season and the second on the road.

Cabrera led the way with three hits and an RBI while eight of the nine Curve batters registered at least one hit. Jeff Inman was nearly perfect in his spot start, tossing four innings of one-hit ball and not facing one over the minimum.

Looking to make it two in a row, Altoona (60-67), who was won four straight now over Trenton, take on the Thunder (73-55) in the second game of the series beginning at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday night. Curve RHP Jameson Taillon will make his highly anticipated Double-A debut on Tuesday night in Trenton and be opposed by Eastern League wins leader Brett Marshall (13-5, 3.12) for the Thunder.

Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. For tickets and more information on the final Curve homestand that begins Thursday, August 23rd, call 877.99.CURVE, visit AltoonaCurve.com or stop by the box office windows at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
