Game #128 - Monday, August 20, 2012

NYSEG Stadium - Binghamton, NY - 6:35 PM

LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets snapped a three-game losing streak and avoided a series sweep by beating the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-2 yesterday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton packed their offense into the second and third innings, scoring five runs on five hits, including three doubles. Eric Campbell led the charge with a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Gonzalez Germen allowed two runs on eight hits over seven innings to earn the win, snapping a personal four-game losing streak with the B-Mets. Brad Holt tossed a perfect eighth inning and Drew Carpenterthrew a scoreless ninth to collect his first B-Mets save. Mike Kickham allowed five runs on six hits over four innings in the losing effort.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Darin Gorski (8-6, 3.88) makes his 22nd start of the season and his fifth versus the Fisher Cats. Gorski has won three of his last four starts and is searching for his first three-game winning streak of the season. The lefty beat the Fisher Cats in his last start on August 15, allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits over seven innings. In four starts against New Hampshire this season the Pennsylvania native has gone 1-2 with a 7.91 ERA. In 19-1/3 innings he has struck out 18 and allowed a .366 batting average.

LHP Sean Nolin (0-0, ---) makes his Double-A debut tonight with the Fisher Cats. The southpaw began the season with the Dunedin Blue Jays (High-A), going 9-0 with a 2.19 ERA in 15 starts. Nolin would have departed the Florida State League with the best ERA, but was 6-2/3 innings short of qualifying. The Seaford, NY native did not pitch from early June until late July. Over 86-1/3 innings, he struck out 90 and allowed a .226 batting average. Selected by the Blue Jays in the 6th round of the 2010 draft out of San Jacinto College North (TX), Nolin spent last season with the Lansing Lugnuts (Low-A), going 4-4 with a 3.49 ERA over 21 starts.

TWO IS BETTER THAN ONE: Eric Campbell collected two doubles and drove in a run yesterday. It was his 23rd multiple-hit game of the season and first since July 24. The effort snapped a 20-game drought without multiple hits, the longest of his season. Campbell's two-baggers boosted his average back to .300 after it hung at .298 for three games.

LONG TIME COMING: B-Mets reliever Drew Carpenter worked around a single and a walk to post a scoreless ninth, collecting his first save with Binghamton. It was the righty's first save since April 9, 2007, when he was a member of the Clearwater Threshers (PHI: High-A). He becomes the tenth different B-Met to earn a save this season.

SAVE RARITY: Drew Carpenter's save was just the second for Binghamton in the last 19 games. The B-Mets are last in the league with 22 saves.

AUGUST EFFORTS: Binghamton has gone 9-10 in August, hitting .245 as a team and amassing a 3.82 staff ERA. Wilmer Flores leads the offense, hitting .306 (19-62) with three doubles and one home run. Brad Holt has made six appearances and allowed just one run.

THE ROAD AHEAD: All of Binghamton's 15 remaining games will be against Eastern Division teams. They will play every team one more time except the New Britain Rock Cats.

AGAINST THE FISHER CATS: The B-Mets battle the Fisher Cats for the 18th time of 20 scheduled meetings this season, the most against any team. New Hampshire has the upper hand with nine wins.

BY THE NUMBERS: The B-Mets have hit .263 as a team versus the Fisher Cats and struck out 140 times, an average of 8.2 times per game. Binghamton's pitching staff has compiled a 4.99 ERA and allowed a .287 batting average.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their final series against the Fisher Cats tomorrow night at 6:35 PM. RHP Greg Peavey takes the mound for Binghamton against RHP Deck McGuire.
