Lake County Captains News Release

(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains, the class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, will host the first-ever high school football game at Classic Park on Friday, October 26. "The Border Battle at Classic Park" will match the Eastlake North Rangers against the Willoughby South Rebels in what is always the most anticipated game of the year between these teams from the Willoughby-Eastlake School system. Game time is set for 7 PM with gates opening at 5:30 PM.

The baseball field at Classic Park will be transformed into a football field with one end zone in front of the first base dugout and the other end zone in front of the left field bleachers. This is a similar configuration to the 2011 game that was played at Wrigley Field in Chicago between Northwestern and Illinois. Due to limited space behind the left field end zone, the game will be played in a similar fashion as the contest that was played at Wrigley Field in that the offensive team will switch directions on the field once they reach the 30 yard line while heading toward the bleachers.

"We have been looking into playing a football game at Classic Park for several years and after reviewing several field configurations, it was determined that the proposed layout will maximize the fan experience for this historic rivalry", said Captains General Manager Brad Seymour. "Working with Eastlake Mayor Ted Andrzejewski, who initially brought the schools together to consider this idea, and the respective athletic directors has been a pleasure and we are looking forward to putting on a memorable event for the community."

The marching bands from both schools will be performing at halftime and the Mayors from both cities will be in attendance to participate in pre-game activities. The Captains Kid's Zone will be in operation.

"We are excited for the opportunity to christen Classic Park to football with one of the best rivalry games in Northeast Ohio", George Burich, North Football Coach stated. South Athletic Director Steve Nedlik said, "We are extremely excited that this annual football rivalry now has the opportunity to be played at such a prestigious venue as Classic Park. Captains management and the City of Eastlake have been tremendous to work with throughout this process and our football teams are looking forward to this inaugural contest." Tickets go on sale this Friday, August 24, at the Classic Park Box Office, on line at CaptainsBaseball.com and by phone at 440.954.WINS (9467). Reserved Grandstand tickets will be $8 in advance and $10 on the day of the game. Students at both schools will be able to purchase a limited number of Student Section tickets in advance for only $5 at their respective schools only. All tickets sold for the game will be for designated North or South sections inside the stadium.

Both schools will be offering VIP party packages that include preferred seating and a pre-game buffet for only $40. A limited number of party suites are also available for $560, which includes 16 game tickets and seating in the climate-controlled Party Suite level of Classic Park. Party Suites may be ordered by calling Neil Stein at the Captains office 440.975.8085 X 115.
