Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains (30-25, 61-63) lost to the Lansing Lugnuts (29-25, 76-47) by a final of 10-0. In the fourth inning with two outs, Aaron Munoz walked. Nick Baligod followed suit and walked on four straight pitches. Gustavo Pierre then hit a three run homerun to the bleachers in left field and the score was 7-0 Lansing. Lake County has been shut out ten times this season.

The Lugnuts scored four runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Lansing saw Baligod reach on a single and then Pierre reached on a fielding error by Leonardo Castillo. The next hitter, Chris Hawkins, laid down a bunt single. The throw to first from the Captains starter Shawn Morimando went down the left field line and all the base runners including Hawkins came around to score. Three hitters into the ballgame it was 3-0 Lansing. Later in the first Michael Crouse singled and Chris Peters doubled him home to conclude the scoring in the inning. It was 4-0 Lansing after a half of an inning.

In the fifth inning, Kevin Patterson hit his sixteenth homerun of the season, a solo shot to make the score 8-0 Lansing. The Lugnuts scored two runs in the ninth inning. Chris Hawkins singled and scored on a K.C. Hobson double. Hobson later scored on a sacrifice fly by Patterson and the Lugnuts took a 10-0 lead heading to the bottom of the ninth.

LHP Shawn Morimando (6-5) started the ballgame for the Captains and took the loss. Morimando lasted just three and two thirds innings, he allowed six hits, seven runs, four earned, three walks. Shawn struck out six. Louis head entered the ballgame and pitched four and one third innings. Head allowed just one earned run on two hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Louis allowed one homerun. Manny Carmona came on in the ninth inning for the Captains. Carmona allowed two earned runs on, two hits and Carmona walked three.

RHP Blake McFarland (5-4) started the ballgame for Lansing and took the loss. McFarland lasted just one and one third innings, allowing eight hits, seven earned runs, two walks and one strikeout. The Lugnuts bullpen pitched six and two thirds innings, allowing six hits two earned runs and four strikeouts. Kramer Champlin (4-1) pitched four innings, allowed one hit and walked one. He also fanned three. Champlin earned the win. Ian Kadish pitched the ninth for Lansing.

On Tuesday, The Captains will send LHP Danny Jimenez (1-3, 6.59) to the mound to face RHP Noah Syndergaard (7-4, 2.79) of the Lansing Lugnuts. First pitch will be at 7:00 PM.

Tuesday is the final Bark in the Park, presented by Home Savings. Dog owners can bring their dogs to the park when they purchase a $5 pooch pass. A portion of the proceeds from the pooch passes will benefit Lake Humane Society & Adoption Center. Dog owners can purchase their tickets for a special $7 price.
