
Lugnuts turn tables, overpower Captains, 10-0

EASTLAKE, OH - Gustavo Pierre and Kevin Patterson homered while Aaron Sanchez, Kramer Champlin and Ian Kadish combined on a two-hit shutout in a dominant 10-0 Lansing Lugnuts (29-25, 76-47) whitewashing of the Lake County Captains (30-25, 61-63) on Monday night at Classic Park.
The Lugnuts are two wins away from tying the franchise record of 78 wins in a season.
The shutout is the Lugnuts 15th of the year, tying the Lugnuts' franchise single-season record.
Lugnuts starter Sanchez was outstanding in four innings of work. The righty allowed just one hit that came with one out in the fourth inning. He walked three and struck out a trio of Captains.
Champlin (Win, 4-1) worked four innings dominating innings out of the Lugnuts bullpen. The righty allowed just one hit, walked one and struck out three.
Kadish worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
The Lugnuts jumped on the board early and never looked back. Three batters into the game, Lake County starter Shawn Morimando (Loss, 6-5) tossed away Chris Hawkins' bunt single with two runners aboard, allowing all three Lugnuts to score.
Morimando pitched only 3 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, walking three, striking out six, and serving up a three-run homer to Pierre drove a three-run homer in the fourth inning.
Patterson drilled his team-leading 16th roundtripper in the fifth inning off Captains reliever Louis Head.
The top three hitters in the Lugnuts line up, Nick Baligod, Pierre and Patterson each recorded two hits and scored two runs.
The Lugs go for the series split in the finale of the four-game set against the Captains on Tuesday, August 21st at 7:00 p.m. Lansing will have Noah Syndergaard (7-4, 2.79) on the mound. Lefty Danny Jimenez (1-3, 6.59) will start for Lake County.
The Lugs return home to Cooley Law School Stadium for Lugnut Charities Night on Saturday, August 25th, opening a four-game series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps.
