Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, KY - Jeff Malm recorded his 35th double of the season, breaking the Hot Rods single-season franchise record, but his Bowling Green Hot Rods (33-23, 71-55) dropped their third straight to the South Bend Silver Hawks (29-26, 64-61), falling 6-3 on Monday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. Cameron Seitzer was also 3-3, but the Hot Rods could not overcome four fielding errors in the loss.

In the last six home games against the Silver Hawks, the Hot Rods are just 1-5 and have dropped four straight. The three-game losing streak at Bowling Green Ballpark is the longest for the Hot Rods since July of 2011.

Malm's double occurred with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning against Silver Hawk starter Archie Bradley, the seventh overall pick in the June 2011 Draft. His 35th two-bagger of the season, Malm breaks the record held by Derek Dietrich and Phil Wunderlich, who both stuck 34 in 2011.

The Silver Hawks used the four Hot Rods errors to score their six runs in a stretch from the second through fourth innings. Hot Rods starter Trevor Shull had to leave due to injury after just 2.1 innings. Shull and reliever Andrew Bellatti combined to allow all six runs.

Bowling Green's bats finally came alive in the bottom of the ninth inning. Malm drew a leadoff walk that was followed by a Seitzer double to left. Josh Sale then drove in both runners with a seeing-eye single up the middle. With two outs later in the frame, Ryan Brett doubled home Sale to cut the deficit to 6-3. However, Juniel Querecuto struck out with Brett at second base to end the game.

The two squads wrap their four-game series on Tuesday night at 6:35 PM at Bowling Green Ballpark. The Hot Rods will send RHP Parker Markel (9-5, 3.84) to the mound, while the Silver Hawks will counter with RHP Tyler Green (4-6, 3.72).
