McCoy Stymies Barnstormers as Ducks Gain Split

Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers had averaged nearly nine runs per game on the first nine games of their road trip. It did not faze Long Island's Chris McCoy, signed by the Ducks earlier in the day.
McCoy shut down the Barnstormers on four hits as Long Island gained a split of a four-game series with an 8-1 win over Lancaster Sunday evening at Bethpage Ballpark.
Lancaster finished the trip with a 7-3 record and heads home with a 3 1/2 game lead over the York Revolution in the Freedom Division.
Lancaster managed to score its only run in the top of the second as Travis Denker blasted a two-out double to center and crossed the plate on a single lashed to right by Emerson Frostad.
In fact, Denker and Frostad were the only two batters to earn their way on base against McCoy. Each added one more hit later in the game, and Frostad picked up the 40-year old's only walk. Ryan Harvey reached base on a two-out error in the ninth.
The right-hander finished with five strikeouts.
Long Island took advantage of J.D. Durbin's early wildness. Durbin (9-9) loaded the bases in the first inning. He walked Dan Lyons, issued a single to Mitch Canham and hit Ray Navarrete with a pitch. Matt Esquivel struck out, but Durbin walked both Timo Perez and Brandon Sing to force home runs. A third tally came across when Bryant Nelson chopped into a 4-6 force play.
Durbin escaped trouble in the second, but Sing greeted him with a towering home run to left leading off the third for a 4-1 lead.
The rest of the night belonged to Esquivel. The Long Island right fielder singled home a run in the fourth and cracked a three-run homer in the sixth for the final margin.
With the Barnstormers short an arm and looking ahead to the upcoming series against Sugar Land, Durbin stayed on the mound the entire game. He allowed eight hits and a club record-tying eight walks and finished the night with 150 pitches. He got two double plays in the last 2 2/3 innings and retired the final five batters he faced.
The Barnstormers open the four-game series against the Skeeters on Monday evening at 7:00. Lancaster will send Mark Brackman (7-6) to the mound against lefty Kelvin Villa (1-5). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, starting at 6:45.
NOTES: Fehlandt Lentini lost his 17-game hitting streak when Long Island center fielder Reid Gorecki ran down his deep drive to left center field in the ninth inning...Durbin's complete game was his league leading fifth...The game broke a 13-game streak for the Barnstormers in which the club had nine or more hits...McCoy had made one other start in the Atlantic League in 2012, beating Long Island for Southern Maryland on July 24.
