Chiefs Drop Series Opener to Bees 5-1

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs fell to the Burlington Bees by the score of 5-1 Wednesday evening at Peoria Chiefs Stadium. The loss puts Peoria at 19-32 in the second half, 54-66 overall, as they head in to game two of the series Thursday evening at 7:00.
The Bees got on the board in the first inning against Jeff Antigua. Sean Jamieson reached on a two-base error by Oliver Zapata in right field with one out. Douglas Landaeta scored Jamieson with a double to left to give Burlington an early 1-0 lead.
Burlington added to their lead in the top of the third. Aaron Shipman was hit by a pitch to start the frame and advanced to second on a single by Bobby Crocker. Jamieson laid down a sacrifice bunt advancing both runners into scoring position. An error by shortstop Wes Darvill allowed Shipman to score and put runners on the corners. Wade Kirkland lifted a three-run homerun to left extending the Bees lead to 5-0.
The Chiefs finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. Jacob Rogers walked with one out before scoring on a Bijan Rademacher double to center, cutting the deficit to 5-1.
Antigua (0-2) allowed no earned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out four over 3 1/3 innings of work. Justin Berg threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out a pair. Bryce Shafer tossed two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five. Pete Levitt pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out two.
Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Bryce Shafer (RP) - Shafer continued his resurgence in his second stint with the Chiefs on Wednesday. The right-hander tossed two scoreless frames while allowing just one hit and matching a season-high with five strikeouts.
