
TinCaps coast past Lugnuts, 9-1

LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (27-22, 74-44) offense was stifled by three Fort Wayne TinCaps (30-21, 61-60) pitchers in a 9-1 loss on Wednesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
TinCaps starter Colin Rea (Win, 5-7) worked five innings, allowed only one run, gave up just five hits, struck out five and walked a pair. The only run the righty allowed came when Rea delivered an errant pick-off attempt to first with Gustavo Pierre on third.
Chris Fetter tossed three scoreless innings and Luis De La Cruz worked a scoreless ninth for the TinCaps bullpen.
Aaron Sanchez (Loss, 8-3) started for the Lugnuts in his return from the disabled list. The righty worked three innings, allowed three hits, gave up one run, walked two and struck out a pair.
The Lansing bullpen surrendered eight runs over the final six innings. Blake McFarland gave up four in three innings of work. Aleson Escalante allowed seven hits and four runs in the final three innings.
K.C. Hobson (1-for-4) doubled in the losing effort, his sixth two-bagger in his last five games. Pierre also swatted a double, one of two hits in his three at-bats.
TinCaps catcher Austin Hedges went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and a home run. Travis Whitmore drove in three and recorded two hits in five at-bats
The Lugnuts committed four errors, matching a season high, in losing their fifth straight game at home.
The middle affair of this three-game series is scheduled for Thursday, August 16th at 7:05 p.m., a Labatt Blue Light Thirsty Thursday featuring $2 beer/pop specials and a postgame concert with Starfarm. The Lugnuts tab right-hander Noah Syndergaard (7-4, 2.89) to start against TinCaps right-hander Ruben Mejia (1-6, 4.88).
