Somerset Patriots Sign Piscataway's Corey Smith

Bridgewater, NJ - The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of infielder Corey Smith.
Smith was the 26th overall pick in the first round by the Cleveland Indians in the 2000 amateur draft out of Piscataway High School.
He has experience in the Indians, San Diego Padres, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Kansas City Royals, and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations including four seasons at the Triple-A level.
Smith has a minor league career .260 average 1,503 hits, 327 doubles, 199 home runs, and 892 RBI in 1,557 games played.
He spilt time in the beginning of this season in Double-A for the White Sox and in the Mexican Leagues. In Double-A, he hit .286 with 74 hits, 19 doubles, eight home runs, and 39 RBI in 65 games played. He hit .263 with 30 hits, seven doubles, nine home runs, and 30 RBI in 27 games in Mexico.
Smith joins his brother, pitcher Carlton, on Somerset's roster. It is the first time in team history that brothers have been on the team at the same time.
Smith has been activated for Friday night's game against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
