Reno Aces News Release
LAS VEAGS, Nev.-Reno tied the game in the ninth and took the lead in the 10th Sunday night, but Las Vegas' David Cooper hit a two-out, walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the 10th that vaulted the 51s to a 7-5 victory over the Aces at Cashman Field.
With the Aces trailing 4-2 in the ninth, Mike Jacobs hit a solo homer to draw Reno to within one, then two batters later Josh Bell hit a pinch-hit double that chased home the tying run. After Jonathan Albaladejo worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth, A.J. Pollock hit a one-out triple off the wall in right-center that chased home Jake Elmore with the go-ahead run in the 10th.
In the home half of the frame, though, a pair of singles and pair of strikeouts brought Cooper to the plate representing the 51s' last chance. Paterson entered the game in relief of Albaladejo, and the Aces left-hander would surrender Cooper's walk-off blast.
Aces starter Trevor Bauer didn't figure into the decision in his first start since being optioned back to Triple-A by the Diamondbacks. Bauer allowed two runs over 5.0 innings of work with three walks and four strikeouts in a 91-pitch effort. Albaladejo (3-2) took the loss, and Paterson was charged with a blown save.
The win went to 51s reliever Bill Murphy (5-3), who worked the top of the 10th for Las Vegas.
Jacobs led the way for the Aces at the plate on Sunday, doubling twice and drawing two walks in addition to his ninth-inning homer. Elmore added three hits, and Adam Eaton stole his 30th base of the season-matching a Diamondbacks Triple-A record.
The series comes to a close on Monday night at Cashman Field. RHP Joe Martinez (10-5, 4.61 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Las Vegas will counter with RHP Shawn Hill (4-0, 4.38 ERA) First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting RenoAces.com.
Reno will return home on Tuesday, July 24. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
