Former Tornado Salotti Hits Game-Winning Home Run

July 18, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) New Jersey Jackals

With the Jackals down 7-6 with two-outs in the top of the ninth inning, Nick Salotti hit a two-run home run off Worcester closer Nick Serino to give the Jackals the 8-7 win over the Tornadoes.

On a hot, cloudy Wednesday afternoon in Worcester, Salotti helps the Jackals to a three-game sweep over the Worcester Tornadoes.

Carlos Guzman's three-run home run in the top of the third gave Isaac Pavlik a comfortable 5-1 lead. Coming off a 4-5 day yesterday, Guzman ends the day 1-4, extending his road on-base streak to 19 straight, the Can-Am League's longest active streak.

Pavlik threw six innings, allowing three runs off eight hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out two in his no-decision.

With the Jackals up 6-3 in the seventh, Zach Woods uncharacteristically allowed two walks to the first two batters he faced. Woods, who came into today's game with 50 strikeouts and five walks, would give up base hits to the next two batters before taken out by Joe Calfapietra. All four runs would score as the Tornadoes took a 7-6 lead.

Salotti, who played with Worcester from 2008 until he was released last week, hit the home run in the ninth to take Woods off the hook for the loss.

Worcester's closer Nick Serino drops to 2-4 this season.

Worcester starter Conner Hulse made his professional debut today. The Harvard student allowed six runs in six innings. He earns the no-decision.

Tomorrow, the Jackals will face the Gary SouthShore RailCats, their final American Association opponent. In 2001, current Jackals manager Joe Calfapietra coached the RailCats in their inaugural season, earning Coach of the Year Honors.

First pitch from Yogi Berra Stadium is 7:05. The pregame show begins 10 minutes prior.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
