Another Late Comeback Gives Thunder Fourth Straight Win

(Binghamton, NY) - For the second straight night the Trenton Thunder trailed by one in the eighth but scored a pair of late runs to come from behind and defeat the Binghamton Mets, this time 5-4, Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Luke Murton's league-leading 20th home run of the season tied the game in the eighth and Mets reliever Robert Carson's balk plated the winning tally as the Thunder (56-39) improved to 5-1 on the current road trip including four one-run victories.

Murton's blast to dead center field came with two outs against All-Star reliever Armando Rodriguez. Then in the ninth, Rob Segedin led off against Carson (0-2) with a double but was tagged out trying to advance to third on Yadil Mujica's fielders choice ground out.

Jose Pirela blooped a single to right field advancing Mujica to third base with one out, bringing Addison Maruszak to the plate. Carson was called for a balk for not hesitating fully in the delivery of a pitch, bring Mujica in from third with the go-ahead run.

J.R. Murphy's second home run of the trip headlined a two-run seventh inning against Binghamton starter Greg Peavey that gave Trenton a 3-1 lead. But Thunder starter Dellin Betances, who had been solid through six innings, allowed a double and a walk to start the bottom of the seventh and was pulled in favor of Lee Hyde.

Hyde would allow a two-run double to Wilfredo Tovar that tied the score at 3 and later a sacrifice fly by Juan Centeno that gave the Mets the lead. Kelvin Perez (5-1) came in to record the final two outs of the seventh and worked the final 2.2 innings, allowing only an intentional walk and striking out two.

Maruszak collected three of Trenton's 11 hits while Pirela had a pair. Betances struck out five and walked only one in six plus innings of work and was charged with three runs.

The Thunder and Mets conclude the three-game series as Trenton goes for the sweep Wednesday afternoon with first pitch slated for 1:05 pm. Left-hander Vidal Nuno (4-2, 1.57) is expected to start for Trenton while Binghamton counters with righty Cory Mazzoni (3-2, 3.48).
