New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Toronto Blue Jays, parent club of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, announced today that they have selected the contract of former Fisher Cats outfielder Anthony Gose. He was promoted to the major leagues when the Blue Jays placed outfielder Jose Bautista on the disabled list. When Gose makes his debut, he will become the sixth player this season, and the 58th overall, to debut in the major leagues after having played for the Fisher Cats.
Gose, 21, was a key contributor to last season's Eastern League championship run for the Fisher Cats, spending the entire year in New Hampshire, hitting .253 with 20 doubles, 16 home runs, and 59 RBI. He also set a new franchise record with 70 stolen bases, shattering the old mark of 46, and tied the franchise record with 14 outfield assists. His 87 runs scored last year is third all-time, and his seven triples are tied for second. He was named an Eastern League post-season All Star.
Promoted to Las Vegas for 2012, the former second round pick (2008, Philadelphia) was having another outstanding season with the 51s. At the time of his promotion, he was hitting .292 with 18 doubles, 5 home runs, and 41 RBI. The California native was leading the Pacific Coast League with 29 stolen bases, tied for second with 10 triples, and third with 77 runs scored. He started in center field for the U.S. squad in the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game on July 9, picking up a single and a walk in two plate appearances.
Gose will join relief pitchers Evan Crawford, Sam Dyson, and Aaron Loup, starting pitcher Drew Hutchison, and catcher/infielder Yan Gomes, who had also been with Triple-A Las Vegas at the time of his call-up, as the five other former Fisher Cats to make their big league debut this season.
