American Association Game RecapsJuly 10, 2012 - American Association (AA)
The Sox scored one run in each of the first three innings, beginning with a solo home run from 3B Matthew Tucker in the first. Working with a lead for all but his first inning on the mound, starting Amarillo pitcher Justin Garcia threw 7.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits to pick up his fourth win of the year. Tucker was one of three Sox batters with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 on the night. Besting Tucker's two-hit night, Sox RF Tim Alberts went 3-for-4, raising his season average to .376. At the plate for Wichita, leadoff SS Ryan Khoury drove in both Wingnuts run, going 3-for-4 on the night.
Winnipeg 11, Sioux Falls 3
Six different Winnipeg players batted in at least one run, 1B Josh Mazzola leading the way with a 3-for-5, two-RBI night in Winnipeg's 11-3 victory over Sioux Falls. Mazolla also hit his seventh home run of the year, a two-run shot in the sixth inning that closed out the Winnipeg scoring. The Goldeyes scored nine runs in the first four innings to jump out to a big lead they'd never lose. Sioux Falls C Al Quintana went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Quintana, however, was the only Pheasants batter with more than one hit.
Fargo-Moorhead 6, Kansas City 5 (10 innings)
The RedHawks went scoreless in the first seven innings, trailing, 5-0, to the T-Bones. That's when the Fargo-Moorhead bats awoke and pushed the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th inning, RedHawks 2B Carlo Cota scored on a dropped third strike to win the game for Fargo-Moorhead. The comeback got started with a three-run home run in the eighth from Nic Jackson, who went 3-for-4 on the night with a run and four RBI. The T-Bones got a double and a triple from C Bubby Williams, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Gary SouthShore 9, Lincoln 3
The RailCats entered the bottom of the eighth inning tied with Lincoln, 3-3. That deadlock didn't last long. Gary SouthShore put up six runs in the frame - including a two-RBI triple from DH Matt Forgatch - and defeated the Saltdogs, 9-3. The three-bagger was Forgatch's only base knock of the night. It was a very different night for leadoff man Adam Klein. The left fielder went 3-for-3 and scored a run. For Lincoln, CF Mike Provencher hit his fourth home run of the year, a game-tying two-run blast in the top of the fifth inning. That, however, was the last time a Saltdog crossed home plate.
Grand Prairie 10, Laredo 6
The AirHogs scored six runs in the first inning, never trailing en route to a 10-6 win over Laredo. Grand Prairie RF Trent Lockwood accounted for three of the first-frame scores thanks to his eighth home run of the year. Lockwood - who was joined in the home run club by teammate Brian Myrow and Zane Chavez - went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Myrow led all players in hits, going 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Lemurs 1B Javier Brito hit his 14th double of the year, going 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.
El Paso 4, Worcester 1 (7 innings)
The Diablos scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie and propelling themselves to a 4-1victory over Worcester of the Can-Am League. El Paso LF JJ Muse doubled in the final two runs of the frame. Muse - batting ninth - went 2-for-2 on the night. The Tornadoes had tied the score earlier in the inning on an Alex Nunez single. Nunez went 2-for-3 on the night. Starting El Paso pitcher Freddy Flores worked around trouble all night, surrendering only one run on 10 hits in six innings to pick up the win.
Sioux City 6, St. Paul 4 (12 innings)
After plating four runs on five hits in the second inning, Sioux City managed just six base knocks over the next nine frames, watching the Saints come back to force extra innings. But in the top of the 12th the Explorers batters returned to form with 1B Kris Sanchez' two-RBI double giving his club the lead back and putting Sioux City on track for the 6-4, 12-inning victory. The game-winning two-bagger was Sanchez' only hit of the night. At the plate for St. Paul, LF Willie Cabrera hit his fifth home run of the season to highlight a 2-for-5 night. Cabrera's two-run blast in the fifth tied the score at four runs apiece and preceded six innings of 0-0 baseball before the decisive 12th.
