
Collier helps Whitecaps avoid sweep, 6-1

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (10-8, 57-30) struck out 13 times and collected just three hits against three West Michigan Whitecaps (9-9, 45-43) pitchers in a 6-1 loss on Monday afternoon at Fifth Third Ballpark.
Whitecaps starter Tommy Collier (Win, 7-6) allowed two hits and struck out eleven Lugnuts over 5 2/3 scoreless innings worth of work. The righty walked none and did not give up a hit until the fourth inning.
Kevin Patterson was the only Lugnut to advance past first base, hitting his 12th home run of the season in the eighth inning against Jade Todd.
Lansing starter Anthony DeSclafani (Loss, 6-3) surrendered three runs in the second and third innings, but settled down from there. The righty completed five innings, allowed six hits, struck out three and walked just one.
Out of the Lugnuts bullpen, Bryan Longpre allowed three doubles and three runs to score in the seventh inning. Aleson Escalante tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth inning and allowed just one hit.
The Lugs return home on Wednesday, July 11th, opening a six-game homestand on Jackson Field. Lansing sends lefty Justin Nicolino (3-2, 2.32) to the mound opposed by River Bandits righty Sam Gaviglio (5-5, 4.50).
