Thunder INF Kevin Mahoney Cleared to Play in All-Star Game

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, in conjunction with the Eastern League, announced Monday that injured 3B Kevin Mahoney has been cleared by the Yankees to play in the 2012 Eastern League All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 11 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, PA. Mahoney, currently on the team's disabled list as he rebabs from a groin injury, is now expected to participate in the game.

Mahoney joins outfielders Melky Mesa and pitchers Brett Marshall and Kelvin Perez as Thunder players expected to participate in the All-Star Game. Outfielders Abraham Almonte and Cody Johnson were each selected to the Eastern Division team but will not play because of injury.

The Eastern and Western Division rosters each consist of 24 players, including at least three players from each of the Eastern League's 12 teams. At least one position player, and one pitcher, from each team were selected by fans through online and stadium balloting. The remaining selections were made through voting by league media, managers and officials.

The Eastern Division is comprised of the Binghamton Mets, New Britain Rock Cats, New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Portland Sea Dogs, Reading Phillies and Trenton Thunder while the teams in the Western Division include the Akron Aeros, Altoona Curve, Bowie Baysox, Erie SeaWolves, Harrisburg Senators and Richmond Flying Squirrels.
