
Eastern League Names Pitcher and Player of the Week

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of July 2nd through July 8th:
New Hampshire Fisher Cats outfielder Brad Glenn has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 2nd-July 8th. The 6'2", 220 lb. slugger batted .419 (13-for-31) with six doubles, five homers, 10 RBI, six runs scored, one walk and a 1.097 slugging percentage in eight games for the Fisher Cats last week. Glenn, who is a native of Cedartown, Georgia, reached base in seven of the eight games he played in during the week and had five multiple hit games, including going 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs, four RBI and three runs scored to lead New Hampshire to a 14-2 win at Reading on Tuesday night. He also drove in or scored at least one run in six games last week. The 25-year old led all Eastern League players in home runs (5), total bases (34), extra-base hits (11), slugging percentage (1.097) and OPS (1.551) last week. He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in doubles (6-tied 1st), RBI (10-3rd) and hits (13-tied 3rd). Brad was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 23rd round of the 2009 draft after hitting .256 with nine home runs, 42 RBI and 41 runs scored in 53 games during his senior season at the University of Arizona. He finished with 43 home runs during his four years at Arizona, which was the second highest total in school history.
Justin Fitzgerald, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 2nd-July 8th. The 26-year old started a pair of games for the Flying Squirrels last week and had a record of 1-0 with 10 strikeouts and a 1.29 ERA. Fitzgerald, who is a native of Santa Rosa, California, made his first appearance of the week on Monday at Akron and allowed one run on four hits and four walks while striking out four batters over six innings of work. He left the game in line for the win but wound up taking a no-decision in Richmond's 9-5, 11-inning victory. In his second start of the week on Saturday against the visiting Reading Phillies the 6'5", 230 lb. hurler struck out six and walked one while giving up just one run on four hits to earn the win as Richmond downed Reading 6-1. Justin, who has a record of 4-6 with a 4.19 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 18 starts for the Flying Squirrels this year, was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 11th round of the 2008 draft after putting together a record of 3-2 with 15 saves, a 3.24 ERA and 35 strikeouts over 33.1 innings pitched in 24 appearances during his senior season at the University of California-Davis.
