RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels, in conjunction with the Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs, are pleased to announce that RHP Justin Fitzgerald has been named as the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending on July 8th.

Fitzgerald made two starts during the course of the week, throwing a combined 14 innings against Akron and Reading and allowing just two earned runs (1.29 ERA). He claimed the win in his latest outing, allowing just a lone run to the R-Phils over eight innings.

Fitzgerald is the second Flying Squirrel (RHP Chris Heston) to earn a weekly league award this season. The award is the eighth earned by a Flying Squirrel in the franchise's existence. Seven of those awards have been won by pitchers. Chris Dominguez claimed the only Hitter of the Week award during the 2011 season.

The 26-year old native of Santa Rosa, CA, has made 18 starts on the season for Richmond. He is currently 4-6, with an ERA of 4.19. Fitzgerald made 27 regular season starts for the Flying Squirrels in 2011, posting a 9-9 record and 3.51 ERA.

The San Francisco Giants selected Fitzgerald in the 11th round of the 2008 MLB June draft out of the University of California-Davis. He is currently in his 5th season as a professional.

The Flying Squirrels complete their six-game home stand on Monday at The Diamond. They enjoy the All-Star break on Tuesday and Wednesday before embarking for Harrisburg and a four-game series with the Senators beginning on Thursday on City Island.
