Clemson Product Moskos Claimed off Waivers, Optioned to Charlotte

(Fort Mill, SC) - LHP Daniel Moskos, a native of Greenville, SC, was claimed off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates and optioned to the Charlotte Knights, as announced by the Chicago White Sox on Friday. Moskos, a product of Clemson University, was activated on Saturday, taking the place of LHP Scott Olsen, who was released by the White Sox organization.

Moskos posted a 1-2 mark with a 3.86 ERA in 14 games with Triple-A Indianapolis this season. The 26-year-old was designated for assignment on June 26 by Pittsburgh. Last season, he went 1-1 with a 2.96 ERA over 31 games for the Pirates - his first season in the Majors.

He originally was selected by Pittsburgh with the fourth overall pick in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Clemson, where he posted a 3.25 ERA in 81 career appearances (10 starts). He ended his collegiate career ranked fourth in school history with 16 saves, fifth in appearances and sixth in relief appearances (71). He was one of 50 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, which is presented to the top player in college baseball by USA Baseball.

In 2006, Moskos was one of 22 players selected to play for the USA National Team, where he helped lead the club to a gold medal in Cuba. He had a 0.86 ERA (21 innings) with six saves, 35 strikeouts in 18 appearances for the USA National Team.

Olsen, 28, made two starts for Charlotte and went 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA. He allowed one run on three hits over four innings.

The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. The Knights host the Norfolk Tides tonight with a 7:15 p.m. game.
