Erie, PA - Erie stormed back from an early three-run deficit, scoring six unanswered runs to claim a 6-3 win over the Akron Aeros in the finale of a three-game series Friday night at Jerry Uht Park.
The Aeros (50-37) dropped two of three against the SeaWolves (42-43) to complete the first half of the current roadtrip. Akron has dropped eight of its last 11 games.
For the second straight night, Akron's Chun Chen and Adam Abraham both homered. Chen slugged a two-run shot in the first inning, and Abraham belted a solo shot in the fourth for a 3-0 lead against lefty Ramon Garcia, who entered the game 4-0 against the Aeros this season.
The SeaWolves, who improved to 11-6 against the Aeros this season, started the comeback in the fifth against starter Giovanni Soto (5-6). Soto threw two wild pitches and committed a throwing error, helping set up two unearned runs.
An RBI groundout by Jordan Lennerton in the sixth tied it at 3-3, and then the SeaWolves knocked Soto from the game with one out in the seventh with three consecutive hits, including an RBI double by Michael Rockett to give the Wolves a 4-3 lead. Niuman Romero followed with a single to make it 5-3, after which Soto was lifted in favor of righty Rob Bryson. Bryson immediately threw a wild pitch to allow another run to make it 6-3.
Garcia left after 6 2/3 with the score tied 3-3. Michael Morrison (2-2) backed Garcia with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win, and flamethrower Bruce Rondon worked the ninth for his 8th save. Five of Rondon's saves have come against the Aeros.
Matt Lawson was 3-3, with a pair of doubles for the Aeros, who saw another game of their division lead evaporate in the July heat. Second place Harrisburg bested Bowie, 3-2, to pull to within 3 =C21/2 games of the Aeros. The Senators have won six straight.
The Aeros will continue the road trip on Saturday night at 6:35, as they begin a three-game set at Bowie. RHP Steven Wright (6-5, 2.25) will start for the Aeros, while RHP Eddie Gamboa (2-1, 2.21) is slated to start for the Baysox.. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
