Frisco RoughRiders News Release
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR-In an absolute heartbreaking loss, the 'Riders saw a four-run lead evaporate in the bottom of the ninth, as Roberto Lopez slammed a 3-run walk-off homer for Arkansas to give his club a 7-6 win Monday night at Dickey Stephens Park. It was Frisco's fourth loss in a row.
The RoughRiders wasted little time getting on the board against AJ Schugel. After Jurickson Profar registered Frisco's first hit of the night, Mike Olt smashed his 22nd home run to put the visitors on top 2-0 after half an inning. It was Olt's second longball in the last three games.
Frisco added to its lead in the second. With two outs, Zach Zaneski cranked a two out double off Schugel, before coming home on an RBI single by Engel Beltre.
Arkansas pulled closer in the home half of the fourth thanks to a good piece of two-out hitting by Ryan Mount. Behind in the count 0-2, Mount fouled a pitch off, before sending Jake Brigham's (4-4) fourth offering over the right field wall.
In the fifth the Travs inched closer after Brigham hit the leadoff hitter Angel Castillo. With the hit-and-run on, Darwin Perez poked a single through the right side sending Castillo to third. Travis Witherspoon would bring him the final 90 feet, on an RBI fielder's choice.
Down 3-2, Frisco regained its two run lead in the sixth. Following back-to-back singles by Jared Hoying and Ryan Strausborger, Schugel plunked Zach Zaneski to load the bases. On in relief, Andrew Taylor walked Engel Beltre to force in a run. Alex Buchholz would tack on two more in the seventh, drilling his first home run ball since May 28.
Following two scoreless innings, Wilfredo Boscan came out to start the ninth. He'd pick up the first two outs, but would allow a pair of runs to score, trimming the 'Riders lead to two. On to close out the game, Ryan Rodebaugh gave up a single to Renny Osuna, before Roberto Lopez ended the game with a three-run walk-off homer.
Dakota Robinson (2-1) picked up the win tossing a scoreless ninth, while Ryan Rodebaugh (1-3) drew the loss and the blown save, surrendering the walk-off to Lopez. Jake Brigham picked up a no-decision, despite allowing only two runs over six innings. The right-hander walked one and struck out eight.
Frisco plays the second of three games against Arkansas on Tuesday. Barret Loux (11-1, 3.87) gets the start for the RoughRiders, he will be opposed by the Travelers Ariel Pena (5-4, 2.94) First pitch is slated for 7:10, and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com.
