San Antonio, TX- The San Antonio Missions used a walk-off walk to top the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 3-2 in eleven innings on Monday night. The loss drops the Naturals to 1-3 on their current road trip.
The Naturals' (41-39) offense managed to get the first run of the game without recording a hit. Eric Duncan reached on an error by the Missons' starting pitcher Donn Roach, and moved to second a wild pitch. Johnny Whittleman turned in a productive at bat grounded out to second base to move Duncan to third. Paulo Orlando followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Naturals a 1-0 lead.
The Missions (36-43) did not get their first hit until they had two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Naturals' starter Michael Mariot then surrenedered a single to the Missions' Jonathan Galvez. Galvez scored on an RBI-double by Nathan Frieman. The RBI was number 64 on the season for Frieman. Cody Decker followed with an RBI-double of his own to give the Missions a 2-1 lead.
Roach went six inning without allowing a hit and surrendering just the one run for the Missions. He walked three and struck out two in his first start of the season for the San Antonio.
Robert Lara came on to replace Roach and lost the no-hit bid surrendering a triple to Paulo Orlando, the first man he faced in the inning. Carlo Test retied the game at two with a sacrifice fly, that plated Orlando.
Mariot turned in another great outing on the mound for the Naturals. The right-hander went seven innings allowing just four hits and two runs, while tying a season high with six strikeouts.
Jon Keck worked three hitless innings in relief to get the game into the bottom of the eleventh. Nick Rogers (0-1) made his Naturals' debut and did not record an out. Rogers walked Frieman and Cody Decker, then allowed a single to Jake Blackwood to load the bases. Reymond Fuentes also worked a walk that drove home the winning run in Frieman.
Daniel Stange (1-0) worked two perfect innings to pick up his first win of the season for the Missions.
The Naturals continue their three-game series in San Antonio tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Right-hander Ethan Hollingsworth (0-3, 5.83) will take the mound for the Naturals against the Missions right-hander Keyvius Sampson (3-7, 5.90). The game can be heard on ESPN 92.1 The Ticket.
