Dayton Dragons News Release
Bowling Green, Ky.-Sean Buckley blasted a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning as the Dayton Dragons came from behind to defeat the Bowling Green Hot Rods 3-2. The win lifted the Dragons to 3-8 in the second half.
Bowling Green took the lead with two runs in the third inning, getting run-scoring doubles by Ryan Brett and Cameron Seitzer to give them a 2-0 advantage.
The Dragons got started in the seventh when Yorman Rodriguez reached on a broken-bat single, went to second when Danny Vicioso walked, and scored on Yovan Gonzalez's single to center to make it 2-1.
In the eighth, Joe Terry walked with one out and Buckley followed with a long home run to left field to give the Dragons a 3-2 lead. It was Buckley's seventh homer of the season.
Bowling Green threatened against Dragons reliever Mike Dennhardt (2-3) in the eighth, putting runners at second and third with one out. Dennhardt faced Hot Rods all-star Jeff Malm, who had belted home runs in his last two at-bats against Dennhardt in Dayton. But Dennhardt struck out Malm and got out of the inning with the lead. Carlos Contreras pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to earn his eighth save.
Dragons starting pitcher Jacob Johnson tossed the first six innings. He allowed seven hits and two runs while walking no one and striking out three. He was not involved in the decision.
The Dragons finished with eight hits. Gonzalez was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
The game provided the Dragons with a satisfying win. They trailed 2-0 after six innings and 2-1 after seven. Their road record this season when trailing at the end of the seventh inning was 1-19 entering the game.
The Dragons battle the Hot Rods on Tuesday at 8:05 p.m. (EDT) in the finale of a three-game series and the Dragons six-game road trip. James Allen (5-2, 3.40) will make his first professional career start for Dayton after 44 relief appearances over the last two seasons in the Reds organization. Bowling Green's Parker Markel (2-5, 5.55) will provide the opposition. The next home game is Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against the South Bend Silver Hawks at Fifth Third Field.
Notes: The start of the game was delayed by 61 minutes because of heavy rain in the afternoon.
