Chiefs Lose for Sixth Straight Night

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs dropped their sixth game in a row against the Kane County Cougars Monday night with a 6-0 loss at Peoria Chiefs Stadium. The loss puts the Chiefs second-half record at 3-8 and they are now 38-42 on the year.

The Cougars were first to score for the second straight day. Jorge Bonifacio lead off the second inning against Jose Rosario and Murray Watts followed with a single bringing up Alex Llanos. On a ground ball by Llanos, the ball snuck under the glove of Zeke DeVoss for an error which scored Bonifacio and moved runners to second and third. Dean Espy singled to left field which brought home Watts making the score 2-0. A wild pitch by Jose Rosario scored Llanos to give Kane County a 3-0 advantage. Kenny Swab singled home Espy who avoided a tag at home to make the score 4-0. A single by Jack Lopez moved Swab to third and on a pickoff attempt to first, the throw got away from Paul Hoilman which scored Swab and the Cougars led 5-0.

Kane County added to their lead in the fifth. Daniel Mateo singled on a liner to right field and stole second. Bonifacio drove a double into the left center gap to bring home Mateo and put the Cougars up 6-0.

The Chiefs didn't pick up their first hit until Hoilman singled in the fourth inning. DeVoss doubled in the sixth, which was the first Chiefs runner to get into scoring position. In the eighth inning, Peoria had two on against reliever Cody Fassold with only one out, but Fassold was able to escape the jam and keep the shutout intact.

Rosario (6-8) finished the night with seven innings pitched while allowing six runs, four earned, on ten hits and he struck out seven. Sheldon McDonald finished the game going two shutout innings without giving up a hit and he struck out three.

Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Sheldon McDonald (LHP) - McDonald was solid in relief and provided two shutout innings. He allowed no hits and only one walk as he struck out two.

Notes: Rosario took the league lead in strikeouts with seven on the night and now has 87 on the year...The ten hits given up by Rosario is the third time he has given up ten hits...The Chiefs losing streak is at six after Monday's game which is the longest of the season...During the losing streak, Chiefs pitchers have allowed at least four or more runs in one inning in each contest...In all games of the losing streak, the Chiefs have given up more than six runs...The Chiefs had three hits Monday, tied for the fewest of the season with the April 10 game versus Quad Cities...The last time the Chiefs were shutout was May 23 against Clinton...The Chiefs record against Kane County drops to 6-5...The Chiefs conclude the series tomorrow night with a game at 6:30...Tuesday's night game is salute to the USA presented by CIAN as the Chiefs honor our military and have a post-game firework show...Tuesday night's game is Taco Bell Tuesday and if you present a receipt for a Doritos Locos Taco and purchase a club box seat ticket you can get a free ticket for any 2012 regular season Tuesday home game...All fans 55 and older get $6 tickets...The Chiefs starter is to be determined and RH Bryan Brickhouse (0-0, 9.00) will toe the rubber for the Cougars...The broadcast can be heard, starting with a pre-game show at 6:45 p.m. on www.peoriachiefs.com/listenlive which also has downloads for a free app on the iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Android.
