Rainiers Shut Out By Las Vegas, 4-0

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Tacoma Rainiers suffered a 4-0 loss to the Las Vegas 51s in the series finale between the two clubs at Cheney Stadium on Friday.

Tacoma was limited to four hits en route to recording the team's seventh shutout defeat of the season, their sixth at home, and fourth in the month of June.

The 51s had the Rainiers trailing 2-0 early thanks to Moises Sierra's two-run home run off Rainiers starter Brian Sweeney with two outs in the in the top of the second inning.

Tacoma's deficit stretched to 3-0 after second baseman Nick Franklin's fielding error cleared the way for third baseman Jonathan Diaz to score with two outs in the third. First baseman David Cooper accounted for the final run of the evening with a solo home run off Sweeney in the sixth.

First baseman Alex Liddi and outfielder Darren Ford recorded the Rainiers only extra-base hits, with each player collecting a double.

The starter Sweeney (3-2) was dealt the loss after surrendering four runs - three earned - on six hits over 7.0 innings, while walking two and fanning four.

Relievers Bobby LaFromboise (1.1) and Chance Ruffin (0.2) combined to hold the 51s to one hit and struck out two over 3.0 scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth.

The Rainiers (32-48) host a four-game series with the Fresno Grizzlies (47-35) beginning tomorrow, June 30. Right-hander Andrew Carraway (2-3, 3.70) is slated to start for Tacoma in the series opener against right-hander Eric Hacker (10-3, 4.37) for the Grizzlies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
