Storm Chasers Put Away the Zephyrs, 8-3, on Friday Night

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers took down the New Orleans Zephyrs, 8-3, in the finale of their three-game series on Friday night at Werner Park. Wil Myers went 2-for-4 at the plate with a three-run blast in the seventh inning.
Doug Davis (4-1) threw an impressive six innings of scoreless ball and held New Orleans (42-40) to just two hits. Ryan Verdugo worked his way through the seventh inning and allowed a three-run home run while Jeremy Jeffress pitched the final two innings and allowed a lone hit in his scoreless appearance.
All was quiet until the fourth inning when Johnny Giavotella walked to start the Omaha (51-31) half of the fourth. Giavotella then stole second and scored on an RBI single by Clint Robinson. A single by Tony Abreu pushed Robinson to second while another single, this time by David Lough, loaded the bases for Anthony Seratelli. Seratelli seized the bases loaded opportunity and singled to right to score Robinson and Abreu. The final run on the inning came on a Kevin Kouzmanoff single that brought in Lough and put the Storm Chasers out front, 4-0.
The Chasers added another run in the sixth inning when Lough tripled to start the frame and scurried home on a sacrifice fly by Seratelli.
Verdugo, who had not pitched in nine days, was summoned from the bullpen to work the seventh and gave up back-to-back singles before allowing a three-run home run to the Zephyrs' Matt Dominguez to shrink Omaha's lead to 5-3.
Undaunted, the Storm Chasers began the seventh with back-to-back singles of their own and after a New Orleans pitching change that saw Rob Delaney replace Robert Ray, Myers hit a three-run home run to lengthen the Chasers lead to 8-3.
Jeffress worked the contest's final two innings to close out the win for Omaha.
The Omaha Storm Chasers will welcome the Albuquerque Isotopes to Werner Park tomorrow for the first of a four-game series. Saturday's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and the first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive a Paint Your Own Vortex Bobblehead presented by our good friends at Wells Blue Bunny.
