Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Kenny Wilson laced a two-out RBI triple in the sixth inning to give the Lansing Lugnuts (1-1, 48-23) a 2-1 victory over the Great Lakes Loons (1-1, 35-37) before a crowd of 8,789 on Saturday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Wilson's triple scored K.C. Hobson (2-for-2, two doubles, two walks) and broke 1-1 tie after Tyler Ybarra (Win, 2-2) allowed a solo home run to Jeff Hunt in the top of the sixth.
Noah Syndergaard started for Lansing and took a no-decision despite turning in his best start of the year. The righty allowed just two base runners in five scoreless innings, a Jan Vazquez double and a Scott Schebler HBP, while walking none and tying a season-high with seven strikeouts.
Loons starting pitcher Ralston Cash (Loss, 1-2) was nearly as good, tossing six innings while striking out five, walking one and allowing two runs on seven hits.
Brandon Berl worked a perfect eighth inning for Lansing, striking out a pair.
Ajay Meyer topped him in the ninth, striking out the side to earn his Midwest League-leading 21st save of the year.
Andy Burns (3-for-4, double, RBI) drove in the Lugnuts' first run of the game in the first inning, taking advantage of a two-out error by shortstop Pedro Guerrero with a run-scoring single to left-center.
Kevin Patterson added two hits, including a double, in three at-bats, and K.C. Hobson went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two walks (one intentional) to aid the winning effort.
The Lugnuts conclude their three-game homestand with a 2:05 p.m. Kids Day rubber match on Sunday, June 24th: families are invited to play catch on the field before the game and Kids Run the Bases after the game. Lugs right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (5-1, 2.63) starts opposite Loons righty Arismendy Ozoria (4-3, 4.07).
Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
