Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, ME - Despite two home runs from Jeremy Hazelbaker the Portland Sea Dogs (29-41) lost 7-3 to the Harrisburg Senators (36-34) Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. The series is now tied at one game apiece with the final of the series coming Thursday evening.
Drake Britton (1-1) had the roughest of his four Double-A starts Wednesday night. The lefty entered the game with a 1.10 ERA, but lasted only three innings allowing seven runs on ten hits as he suffered his first Double-A loss.
Harrisburg got to Britton early scoring two runs in the first inning. Jeff Kobernus (3-for-5) led-off the game with a double, advanced to third on a fly ball to right off the bat of Zach Walters and scored on a Jesus Valdez infield single. Valdez would come home on a Justin Bloxom single.
Devin Ivany connected off of Britton in the second for his second home run as the Senators took a 3-1 lead.
The Nationals affiliate plated four runs in the third taking a 7-1 lead. Bloxom (2-for-4, 1 R, 3 RBI), delivered a two run single and Manny Mayorson added a two run double.
The Sea Dogs bullpen was outstanding in relief of Britton. Caleb Clay relieved Britton in the fourth and tossed three scoreless innings holding the Senators to two hits. Will Latimer followed with three scoreless innings of his own.
Hazelbaker hit his eighth and ninth home runs of the season and has three home runs in the series. Hazelbaker led-off the game with a home run off Harrisburg starter Kevin Pucetas and followed with a solo shot in the third off Pucetas.
Pucetas (5-2) earned the win scattering seven hits over 6.1 innings and allowing three runs.
The two teams will play the rubber match Thursday evening at 6:00 PM with a post-game fireworks show, brought to you by Oxford Networks. The Sea Dogs will send right-handed pitcher Chris Martin (3-4, 4.80) to the mound. Harrisburg righty Rob Gilliam (1-6, 5.12) will get the start for the Senators.
